Justice Court Clerk
- Powers: Clerks and deputies can record pleadings, accept payments, issue process, and approve bond sufficiency.
- Warrants: They may issue criminal warrants upon direction from a justice court judge.
- Case Assignment: All cases are assigned to judges via the clerk as provided by § 11-9-105 and § 99-33-2.
- Payment Handling: Clerks may refuse personal checks for fines or costs.
- Shared Services: As of July 1, 2022, multiple counties can agree to appoint a single justice court clerk.
- Training/Bonding: § 9-11-29 requires clerks to complete training within 90 days of appointment and post a $50,000 bond
Bookkeeper-Justice Court
This role requires strong attention to detail, knowledge of accounting principles, handling sensitive financial data, and excellent public interaction skills, acting as a bridge between the public, attorneys, and the court and any other duties assigned by the Justice Court Clerk, County Administrator or Board of Supervisors.
