Flood Inundation Project Web Site Released for Public Use

Hattiesburg- A new Flood Inundation Project was presented and a website unveiled for public use during a press conference on Friday, Dec. 7 at 10:00 a.m., at Chain Park, located at 912 East 8th Street.

The Web site, http://wim.usgs.gov/FIMI/, will allow residents to estimate the potential for flooding based on the flood level of the Leaf River. The project is a joint partnership between the City of Hattiesburg, City of Petal, Forrest County,Forrest County Emergency Management, MS Emergency Management Agency, MS Office of Homeland Security,USGS, and the National Weather Service.

The City of Hattiesburg will also dedicate a monument and flag pole commemorating the 1974 record flood. During the 1974 Flood, Leaf River reached the record of 34.03 feet at the USGS gauge at Highway 11. For more information contact (601) 545-4508.
